Travel has made me realize an important thing that people can only enjoy the beautiful places if they are clean. This post is not any publicity stunt or about India bashing so that some of us earn brownie points in media, this was a self volunteer job we have planned to do to make people aware, importance of #CleanIndia movement and how all of us can do our bit. Being a responsible traveler its important that we stay conscious about our environment as well...its important that more and more people get awareness about how each one of us can fight against people who are throwing trash anywhere and everywhere. We recently cleaned one of the beach of Rishikesh and realized how irresponsible few people are not realizing the repercussions of plastic waste(plastic usage is anyways has huge environmental hazards but certain things we cant avoid since our lives depends on day to day things but least we can avoid throwing the plastic garbage in public places) in open in public places. I see the only way is to come out and FIGHT...
Yes!!! You read it right. You HAVE to fight to make it happen. Let me explain step by step:
1. Start with yourself. Go outside. Eat anything whether street foods, chocolates, package drinking water(I mean best if you carry your own bottle when traveling so that u don't have to buy a new plastic bottle again and again). But, after eating, find dustbin and dump all your wastage in there. Don't throw it ANYWHERE! NOT even, “oh! There is a pile of garbage right beside street. People are throwing wastages there so I thought I can do too or this pile seems closer to me....” these are just excuses...DO NOT DO IT! Dustbins are made for wastage!!
2. Share your cleaning steps with your close friends, family, relatives. Tell them and AWARE them NOT to throw garbage anywhere.
3. STOP spitting on streets randomly. Whenever you find someone throwing garbage on streets, STOP them right away! And YES. Here your fighting will start. People will giggle at you, make fun of you, make you feel like you're the ONE who is wrong. Still… Raise your voice! You'll see tons of people on streets, traffic that people throw plastic bags, chips packets randomly on streets from their car. Go and tell them to pick it up! (Don't do it when traffic moves though. I don't want you meet with any accident) If they ignore you, be naughty! Pick that up, tell them to roll down Window glass and put in their car, and run!!
You'll face tons of difficulties. Probably will get super frustrated because other people don't give a DAMN about it. But, Do YOUR part! Do your responsibilities! We all are creatures of this mothernature and it's our duty to keep our surroundings clean!
I am thankful to my friends, relatives and some more travelers and kids at the beach who came forward to help us clean the portion of beach unconditionally...I wish more and more people get awareness about how important is to have clean environment...come on people you can do it.
